Lars Larsen Comments On Tax Day Facts For 2004

Tommorrow is tax day. Here are some things to think about:

• One third of all Americans will owe no taxes this year.
• 1/3rd of our fellow americans: 44 million filers will owe no taxes for 2003. They worked, they made money, but they will owe no income taxes for last year. 5.5 - 6 million families who no longer owe taxes because of increase in child tax credit from $600 to $1000. For all of those who believe tax cuts only go to the rich, imagine almost 6 million families going to a no tax status.

• Federal budget: 2.4 trillion dollars. That's $8000 per person per year. "Amount of money spent on your behalf by the federal government. You saw that money when you turned on the TV and saw the soldier in Iraq. You saw that when you drove down a highway. You see that when an elderly person picked up a social security check. You see that when a kid goes to school."

• Lars agrees with Jefferson "The government that governs least governs best."

• Median income is 50,000 for a family of 4. Will pay $12,000 for taxes on that. Yet, on their behalf, $32,000 is being paid for them.

• The top 1% of America, 3 million americans, about 1.5 million working americans, earn 15% of all the money. They train well, they work hard, their work is valued. They make 15% of the money, but they pay 30% of the taxes. Where did the excess in the federal budget come from?

• It only takes $100,000 to get in the top 15% in america. A garbage man and a teacher may top this. A teacher and a policeman can have this combined income.
• If 44 million tax filers pay no taxes whatsoever, shouldn't they pay something? Even a token amount. If they each paid $1000 a year, $80 a month, that's a lot out of a salary of $18,000 a year. IT would still be only $44 billion dollars. It is chump change compared to the whole budget. Should everyone pay something, or should 1/3rd of people who work for a living pay zero in taxes?

The reason this occured to Lars Larsen, is because a judge said when he decides child custody, he asks everyone to pay something. Even if they make almost nothing, he orders at least $25 a month payment. Everyone should pay for the welfare of the child, even if they are dirt poor. Should we have the tax system reflect that kind of responsbility for the country?

More about the taxes, at a state level

Some states are spending $6,000 a person. That pays for schools, and roads, and cops, and prisons, and schools, etc.

Combine that with the federal, and it's $56,000 spent a year at various levels of government for a family of four! That's more money than they make!

Ariana Huffington wants to tax corporations more, which raises prices for everyone!
